He is one of the premier industry analysts for rail and shipper dynamics, rate data and rail and intermodal costs, rail competitiveness with trucking, and regulatory and operational issues in the rail and intermodal industry.
Todd is a frequent speaker at Rail Shipper events as well as host of the weekly FTR Rail Market Update podcast.
He is the principal author, responsible for providing commentary, data analysis, and forecasts for the Intermodal Dash and Rail Update services. He is also a primary contributor for the Shippers Update, Rail Equipment Outlook, and Rail Closer Look services, as well as State of Freight Insights, which looks at trends in freight transportation.
Currently, his research interests include:
- The changing regulatory landscape at the Surface Transportation Board
- The ongoing Crude-By-Rail market dynamics surrounding rail and pipeline movements of crude
- How ethanol and other hazardous materials shippers are planning to adapt their fleets to coming regulations in 2023
Prior to FTR, Todd was the North American transportation editor for Argus Media.
A Philadelphia native and diehard Philadelphia sports fan, he graduated Temple University with dual degrees in history and journalism. Todd has also worked as a sports reporter covering double-A baseball in New Jersey.
